could somebody please tell me the difference between cabin grade BD to BE on the pacific jewel thanks

I am also booked for the December Cruise and interested in how this one is going. I have never cruised before so have no idea what to expect so will be following this with great interest.

Does anyone know why the March 10th cruise is going to Lifou and not Ouvea?

Hello all, My family and I are going on the Island Delight cruise at the end of June this year. To all of you previous cruisers can you please advise if it is better to book tours or go it alone. We are going to the following islands Lifou,Noumea, Isle of Pines, Poum. Your past experiences would be appreciated.

I Would advise that you book your tours prior to leving home, by doing this it simply avoids dissapointment of missing out on the tour. And now that you can book on the cruise personliser its much quicker and hassel free. Hope this helps you

We are going on the 28th March & got an email just last week saying that we aren’t going to Quvea due to unrest & that we are now going to Lifou instead.

All balcony cabins on deck 10 are the same size & style , the grading & pricing is determined by the position of the cabins on the Jewel… cabins located Forward & Aft (BD & BE grades – may experience a small rocking motion) you will find may be slightly cheaper than the cabins located in “midships” (BC grade).
Those cabins in “midships” are the PRIME cabins to have, being the most stable place on board.

You shoud be able to access this facility on the cruise personaliser about a month prior to sailing out, im booked on the 26th of april cruise and i was only able to pre book my tours in the last month.

Hi Danni I think its just the location.. After being on 4 p&o cruises it doesnt matter where on the boat your located but we just prefer outside would never do inside.

Just got back from mine and partners first cruise . The cruise was great and I loved Tassie. There is plenty to do on board and shore tours were good also. Our sister and brother in laws were on board aswell, they did there own thing in ports and had a great time also. There are shuttle buses (free) waiting to take you to the city centre and you are able to get free city scenic buses around aswell. The cruise will be as good as you make it, the food was good and plenty of it .All the staff are helpful and friendly too. The shows are good however a bit corny at times but always entertaining and funny. We had a great time . There are always going to be people that winge about one thing or another but I think if you go with the intention of having a good time you will. The Spa is expensive and I couldn’t justify it’s use but I’m sure others would have used it. If you want to eat at the waterfront you need to book your seating time soon after you get on board and you can book each night for the next night. The salt grill is excellent and for only $30.00 extra per person, If you wish to book do so as soon as you are in your cabin, Suggest you book a couple of nights as later you may not be able to get in. You can always cancel if you change your mind. La Luna (asian fusion $20.00 pp) is lovely as well but suggest you don’t eat much during the day as it is 8 courses and almost too much food.
I personally enjoyed myself and could have quite easily stayed on board for the next cruise, eight days as a first cruise gives you the taste for another. Make sure you are at a good vantage place for wine glass bay it is beautiful.
Have a great cruise in december and in november book your shore tours on the personaliser to make sure you get the ones you want as they are popular.

we were on this cruise and we had a fantastic time. Tassie was great, lots of time in Hobart to explore the city and it was great being there overnight. Port Arthur was great too – the ship’s tenders take you to the jetty at Port Arthur and we had a great day wandering around the historic site.
Wineglass Bay was stunning, just like these photos show. I just wish the cruise was longer! We had a really enjoyable time, I’d recommend this cruise to anyone.

Thanks for that i thought that might be the case ill keep on trying when it is getting closer as there are tours that i want to do and i dont want to miss out ive had my tours sorted out since i booked my cruise in april last year im going in July with my 15 year old daughter, this will be our first time on a cruise and overseas very excited.

I’m sailing out later in the year, have a couple of questions to ask if any one can help. In regard to Shore Tours & On Board Duty Free Goods.

* Shore Tours – Now that you can book them on line (looks like a month out from sailing thru Cruise Personaliser), do you receive confirmation of your selected shore tours if so When ???.
* Are IPODS / MP3 or MP4 players availble for sale (duty free) on board.

Can’t wait to go in December to Tassie on the Jewel. Will be my 7th cruise. Every time a different ship.

We watched the Jewel dock at Hobart last week and what a great sight. We also took the opportunity to chat to a few passengers as they disembarked and all had positive things to say;great food,entertainment etc.This was reassuring in light of some previous comments on the blog.We are on the July 28 cruise and as hard as we try not to count down the days thats what we are doing. So looking forward to our first ever cruise.

I know what you what you mean, were booked on the 26th of april cruise and were starting to doubt P and O, however our minds have been put at rest apon reading the latest coments, great to see. And now more excited than ever

John & rose, Cruises are amazing, everything done for you. I would suggest book the restaurant every evening and don’t get to cloese to negative people.
Do what you want to do and explore the whole ship.
You will both have a great cruise.
Just went on the Dawn in Jan and it took 5 mins for my kids to find their way back to our cabin. They didn’t get lost at all.
Our family had a plan that if we all got seperated we were to meet at the pool. This never happened. Not once.

I am off on my 19th cruise this time on the Jewel on 28th of March am counting down. For those wandering about booking shore tours -you can’t book them untill you have made your final payment, then go for it but remember a lot of the ports you can do your own thing.

Hi Jen/Drew we were told by passengers looking around Hobart NOT to sit with negative people….people complainig over trivial matters.We were told its a good idea to try to have breakfast at a table for two to avoid this.We think we are easy to please and our only expectation is for a good time.After chatting to passengers on the Tassie cruise we feel totally at ease with our decision to sail with P & O and we are taking all positive pointers and storing them away for when our cruise gets here. Drew,we hope you find the time to write at the completion of your cruise and give us an update.Cheers and hope you have a ball

Thanks Deb, great information. I have done 6 cruises, different ship every time, I’ll be in pool everyday. May give Chocolate Cafe a miss. Trying to loose weight. Can’t wait till December to go to Tassi. A few questions:
Free busses. Are they at Hobart only or all the ports?

Is it far to walk to Bruni shopping district/ town? Or do they have busses?

Port Arthur Historic Site – Is it near where tenders drop us off? or are there busses?

Jan you will have a great time. I would suggest book the reasturant every night. Then if your a bit peckish later on just go to the buffet for a top up.
Just got back from Pacific Dawn cruise and I went to buffet every evening for dinner. Seemed like same thing all the time.
I am definately booking reasturant in December early sitting, think it’s 6 or 6.30pm. Then my kids will be able to see the early show and then off to Shark Shack until close while I wander the ship or go to another show.
Think second sitting is about 8.30pm for dinner. To late for us.

Facebook has a P & O site. I guess people only become a fan if they like cruising. Heaps of photos on there and lovley comments about P & O.
Really worth having a look. Some stunning photos.

Hi Learne i am going on the same cruise when did you hear about not going to ouvea as i had not heard, asit is such a beautiful place but have heard Lifou is nice as well.

Can’t wait just booked our first cruise for next March. Almost counting how many sleeps to go. Really looking forward to relaxing and sipping wine while watching the sunsets over the waters. It’s a hard life but someone has to do it.

As we are going on our first cruise next year this info is really usefull – thanks. Will remember to book for the Salt Grill early. The eight course asian night sounds interesting. We are going next March and going to Noumea. Ouvea, Vila, Mystery Island and Isle of Pines. Cant wait.

Does anyone know of Undercover Security Parking close to Sydney cruise terminal? Closer than the airport.

Sailing in December our first cruise from Sydney to Tassie and flying in from Brissie. Any suggestions for a couple of oldies to get from the airport to the Pacific Jewel Terminal?

Yes a taxi is best between $45 and $50 saves you struggling on the train and having to walk the rest of the way.

Would have to agree with Kay that a taxi would be best but if you want to arrive in style maybe organise a hire car (limo/sedan) to pick you up from the airport and drop off at Wharf 8….
Being a fixed price, it won’t vary as it could by travelling in a taxi which depends on the Sydney traffic between the airport & city and what time of day you’ll be arriving.
That would definitely be a great way to start a holiday.

We are also on the December Tassie cruise, in our 50’s and come from Brisbane.

You can catch a train from the Airport to the city and then I would cab the rest as I am unsure of where the new wharf is that the Jewel is leaving from.

We have family in Sydney so they will drop us off at the wharf.
