I see Pacific Jewel is back in Sydney, won’t be long now before we get our first blogg of what she is like.
Hope all who sailed on the maiden cruise had a fantastic time. I have to wait for 12 months to go on Pacific Jewel, but only 4 weeks until Pacific Dawn. Can’t wait to just relax and do nothing, although I do like all the activities Cruise ships have to offer.

  • http://helen.manalo@yahoo.com.au Helen Manalo

Pacific Jewel is a beautiful ship. Just came back this morning
from the maiden voyage. We got the nice presents ( golf um-
brella and tote bag). The highlight was the night when Marcia
Hines performed at The Marquee, it was great. The only thing
that did not score high on my card was the service at the dining
(Waterfront restaurant); the food was superb but the slow
serving of food gave me the turn off. Aside from this small
glitz I enjoyed my cruise just like the others I did with P&O.

  • http://helen.manalo@yahoo.com.au Helen

They collected our cruise cards when we disembarked this
morning. I was not pleased because I am keeping a
book of my cruise cards that I accumulated after years of
cruising. I wish P&O can send them back to all the maiden
voyagers who were on the cruise ship first sailing out of
    Sydney.

  • Bob

Auckland, Apia,Bora Bora & Isle Of Pines

  • Jen

Helen, that is strange. I to am keeping my cruise cards & I put them in my photo album with my cruise photos. Maybe they are able to re-use them now. Recycle everything. I thought names & cabin numbers were printed on the cards. Can’t remember it has been 4 years since my last cruise.
4 weeks until I go on Pacific Dawn. My husband received his tickets in the mail today. I am expecting my ticket on Monday. We have different cabins bacause I have our 3 children in my cabin. I did think our tickets would all come together.
Helen apart from collecting cruise cards, tell us what was Pacific Jewel like.

  • Jen

Did anyone with children go on Pacific Jewel?
What was the child centres like?
What was the children meals like? etc etc
Tell us about all children things.
Does child centre take children on Bridge tour or do parents take their children?

  • Bob

No people can have a tour on the bridge anymore

  • Bob

and it is a bit crazy

  • Jen

It has been 4 years since my last cruise & people could go on bridge tour then. I know things change but bridge tours have been aloud for 30 or 40 years or maybe even longer.

  • Georgina

  • Karen Norley

    Hi Jen,
Shark shack is excellent but HQ was not working well. They hoping to improve the area. There’s not enough room & my 2 girls were a bit intimidated by the rowdy kids. My son loved Shark Shark & the girls would have loved to be there as well. They did heaps of fun stuff & he bought home some nice things from there. I didn’t hear much about turtle cove. Only 1 negative comment but there maybe someone with more info.
We loved the cruise although there were a few teething problems. Mix ups in restaraunts & a couple of cabin problems. On the whole it was a great family holiday.
    Karen

  • Jen

Thanks Karen, what was the children’s menu like? I have a fussy eater & the other two will eat anything.
We are going on PJ December 2010. One week before christmas.
    Looking forward to shark shack.
Do they give parents pagers incase their children want to leave the child center?
I can’t wait to go on PJ. We sail on P Dawn in 4 weeks. First cruise for our kids.

  • Bob

The kids menu had Chicken Nuggets with chips ham burger Cookies Icecream Chefs pick of the day and forget what the others were

  • Jen

Thanks Bob, realling looking forward to not cooking and cleaning for the week. Will Iron the first afternoon / night, all the things in our suitcase that may rinkle a bit. Then I will be set for the cruise to just sit back and relax.
Be totally pampered and looked after by the wonderful staff & crew of P & O Cruise ship.
Thanks Bob for the children’s food.

  • Bob

And that is in the dining room but in the buffet there is hardly good and the buffet hours are Morning 6.30 till 10.30am 11.30 till 3.00am dinner times are 5.30 till 10.30pm

  • Bob

Jen, parent of Bob here, no pagers, my child had crying with sore leg and he was just told to phone cabin but we were at Salt Grill then went to Marcia Hines show after at 9.30 so by time we went to get him he’d fallen asleep 10.30pm – never mind he survived and if it was a real emergency I am sure we would have been found somehow. So dont stress, have a good time and relax. 1st cruise did have problems but they will sort them out, bars and lounges lovely to relax in, good music and entertainment. Disco too small but we dont go there – enough other things to do and get tired by midnight for busy next day if a port – need some sleep. Watch the ocean and lovely sunsets – beautiful.
Laundry and ironing on Deck 10, irons free, $3 for use of washers and dryers each, but who does that on holiday, pack enough clothes and do it when you come home – that is my philosophy!! Food good, restaurant need 1-2hrs to have full menu so book early times, buffet walk in but get table first then just pop back to and fro for bits of meal so not in queues so long – two sides of buffet so pick one that has less people, dont go really in peak time of eating, get up early or go at end of times.
Enjoy and relax, relax, relax. Cruising is best holiday ever.

  • Jen

Thanks Bob for all your comments. This will be my 6th cruise. I don’t go to disco’s either. When on Pacific Sun there was still smoking onboard and I couldn’t stand the smell of smoke in the disco. Could not move, to many people and mainly younger people in there, too loud for me. Enjoyed quiet lounges and Pionao bar.
I don’t wash clothes either, but I did Iron rinkled clothes from my suticase. Only needed to iron once.
This will be first time with children, so a bit anxious to find out about children things onboard. I’m sure they will be fine. I have read the entire cruising with children booklet.
Last cruise I tried everything for food, A La Cart breakfast, lunch & dinner. I also tried buffet for breakfast & lunch.
There was also some young girls, 18 or 19yo who turned up to buffett breakfast in their pj’s.
I went to Purcer office on my way to bed, as everyone was out at disco or lounges.
I agree Cruises are the best holiday ever that’s why we have 2 booked for next year. January 2010 on Dawn & December 2010 on Jewel.

  • Jen

    Hi Bob & Karen, Do P & O still to Bridge tour’s ?

  • brena gent

cruised on the jewel and was very disappointed with the staff and what they had to do on board ,so I would like to know were do I write to

  • Maureen & Bryan

Hi everyone – hubby and I travelled on the maiden voyage and had both positive and negative views. After 18 cruises we felt qualified to pass comment on this ship. Our cabin (window cabin) was one of the biggest we have encountered, (the Dawn Princess (Balcony) 5 star ship was much smaller). The Plantation Bistro was a bit of a disappointment food wise, with a bit repeatative menus, just read you could purchase chips!!! didn’t see that advertised in the paper anywhere! The Restaurant, whilst lovely, took ages to get served, but I preferred the food there. I didn’t like the idea of not getting receipts for all purchases, (first time ever), and the final account was never received, (which is usually put under the door the last evening before disembarkation). I thought the drinks (except wine) were reasonable, and I would recommend the Midori Splice if anybody likes cocktails. I had to laugh at brekkie each morning in the Bistro, there was one chef to cook your eggs!! hence a queue. All in all, I would say a few problems, that hopefully will be sorted out before our next cruise 14 Feb to celebrate my 70th birthday!! Regards to everyone, and please enjoy the positives of the ship, Maureen & Bryan

  • Cameron

Good to hear a genuine report on the Jewel. Where have all the other 190 comments gone as I want to book on the Jewel but want to see ALL the reports, not the people who are going, but all the people who have gone.

  • Sharon

Just book it and go! You will have a better time if you are prepared to judge it for yourself and not what everyone else has to say!

  • Bob
